The Body Walk Comes to Town
3rd Graders Learn the Fun Way

Picture of the brain - looks like a round tent with eyes.
The brain was just the beginning of an adventurous journey for Garland County 3rd graders.

Learning about different foods and how they affect our bodies doesn't seem like fun for most 3rd graders. But this year, 655 students from six different schools spent a few hours learning just that. The Body Walk was brought here by the Garland County 4-H Office and local Farm Bureau Women's Committee. Instructors for that day were 4-Hers, 4-H Leaders, EHC members, and Master Gardeners.

The kids first entered the brain to learn how food affects our thought process. After that, they proceeded to the table to become a food. The next step is entering the mouth. From there, they followed the direction that food would normally take. After the intestines, they went to the blood stream and followed it to the heart, lungs, bones, muscles, and skin. They exited the skin through a cut into the Path of Life to review what they have learned.

Each participant received a Body Walk booklet to take home and share with others.
