Walk, Walk, Walk!!!
Healthy Weight for Arkansans

Physical activity has been on the decline for quite some time. The problem is not just a local problem. Just look around and the evidence is obvious. To help promote physical activity in Franklin County, the “Walk Across Arkansas” program for the Division of Agriculture was advertised, and as a result, a “Walk Across Arkansas” program for Franklin County was started. This program has helped raise awareness about the importance of physical activity in relation to general health.

The Walk Across Arkansas program was promoted and delivered in Franklin County. The main goals of the program were

  • to get people up and moving
  • to encourage Arkansans to exercise every day for at least thirty minutes
  • to help reduce Arkansans’ risk for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, osteoporosis, obesity, and cancer

Walk Across Arkansas – Franklin County used teams consisting of five members instead of the traditional eight. A grant was secured by the Hometown Health Committee, and free pedometers were given to all participants. Teams included members from across the county.
