Agriculture Impacts Faulkner County
Beef and dairy producers contribute $19-20 million in annual income to
Faulkner County.
The Faulkner County Extension agriculture advisory committee and county
Extension council recommend on farm demonstrations and field days as a primary
means of adapting the latest technology to farms in Faulkner county.
Matt, Fred and Jason Simon with Simon Brothers Dairy said, "The silage
demonstrations showed us how to no till, utilize appropriate herbicides, the
importance of timely harvest and intercropping soybeans with sorghum to improve
the protein and TDN of our silage."
Additional demonstrations included pasture weed control where producers at
the hay day viewed the comparison of different pasture weed control herbicides
as well as their costs and a new herbicide just entering the market. A nutrient
management demonstration was established on a dairy farm to analyze
environmentally safe methods to utilize nutrients from manure on the farm.
