County Impact Statements - Cross County
Demonstrations, Field Days Inform Growers On Latest Irrigation Technology

Irrigation water is one of the most important factors in production agriculture in Cross County. Without it soybean yields would be severely limited, and rice production would not exist.

The wise use of water available for irrigation helps producers maximize the yield potential of today’s rice and soybean varieties.

Research information on irrigation technology is disseminated to growers in Cross County through demonstration projects and field days. Irrigation projects may include border irrigation in soybeans or multiple inlet irrigation in rice production.

With the availability of computers increasing, producers are able to irrigate fields on a more timely basis through the use of programs such as the irrigation scheduling program.

With this information, producers are able to save money on irrigation costs, irrigate in a more timely manner, and use less water.
