Financial Resource Management

Eastern Arkansas which includes Crittenden County ranks 6th in the nation in the number of bankruptcy filings. Nearly 30% of the people in Crittenden County live in poverty. Learning financial management skills is a valuable asset to Crittenden County clientele. Money 2000 and Beyond is an educational program designed to encourage participants to set financial goals to increase savings and/or reduce debt. As of September 2001, 86 Money 2000 and Beyond participants in Crittenden County reported saving $26,285 and reduced debt by $56,104 following their participation in Extension’s Financial Resource Management Programs.

The Cooperative Extension Service offers a range of educational programs including Money 2000 and Beyond, Money and You and High School Financial Planning to address the issues money management among families.

75% of Estate planning participants increased their knowledge of estate planning.

Keeping It in the Family was an educational program conducted to provide clientele with a basic understanding of estate planning.

The program included such topics as Estate Planning, Wills and Probate, Who Gets Grandma’s Yellow Pie Plate and General Baking Information. Over 100 participants attended the three sessions.

Impacts

  • Eighty-six Money 2000 and Beyond participants reported saving $26,285 during the program’s 21 months.
     
  • Eight-six Money 2000 and Beyond participants reported reducing debt by $56,104 during the program’s 21 months.
