Agriculture

Arkansas. The University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service
has a wealth of information on all aspects of agriculture in
Arkansas as well as many services available to our residents.

or services listed below.
Soil Sampling
The University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service provides
free soil analyses for our clientele. Procedures for taking soil
samples are as follows: 1) Soils that are distinctively different in
appearance, crop growth or past treatment should be sampled
separately. 2) When sampling fertilized fields, avoid taking
samples from fertilized bands. 3) Remove a small core sample from
the surface 5 to 7 inches (plow depth) in 20 to 25 places in the
field. In fields larger than 12 acres, take at least one core per
acre. For pastures, the topsoil sample should be taken from the top
3 inches. 4) Mix samples thoroughly, and bring a dried sample into
the county Extension office.
Pesticide Applicator Training (PAT)
The PAT is for forage producers who want to purchase
restricted-use chemicals to spray on their own property. This
2½-hour training involves pesticide safety and nitrogen management.
Call to find out when the next PAT will be held in your area, or
