Crawford County Seniors Practice Healthy Ways
The Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program in Crawford County
gives seniors the opportunity to learn healthier ways of eating.
Many senior citizens have health concerns and are searching for
answers on how to reduce their LDL cholesterol levels, how to
improve their blood pressure or how to lower their blood sugar.
The University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service has the
answers they are seeking. Through Extension’s FSNE program, seniors
learn to eat well with less fat, sugar and sodium . . . and they
have fun doing it! Programs are designed to be interactive, getting
participants involved in the learning. In the picture above, seniors
are playing a game that will help them determine the amount of
saturated fat in three-ounce portions of ham, pork, beef, chicken,
turkey and fish. Crawford County senior citizens are practicing
healthier ways from the grocery counter to the table!
The Crawford County FSNE program also focuses on stretching food
dollars, food safety and meal planning for nutritious and
well-balanced meals.
For more information on this and other family and consumer science
programs, contact Joyce Whittington, County Extension Agent - Family
and Consumer Sciences, at the Crawford County office.
