County Impact Statements - Bradley County
Bradley County Youth Developing Life Skills

Since it began in the early 20th century, 4-H has been a part of the Bradley County community. For over 25 years, 4-H has emphasized youth acquiring "life skills" while learning subject matter. The Bradley County 4-H program does place a major emphasis on youth developing life skills.

4-H’ers participate in county-wide activities such as the Annual Recognition Banquet, Arbor-Day planting, Talks & Demonstrations, B-Day, and "Share the Fun" Talent Competition. These activities teach 4-H members to give back to their communities, to express themselves, to win and lose gracefully, to talk in front of crowds and more.

Through school enrichment programs, youth learn how to prevent violence, about character, about the Food Guide Pyramid and food safety and resource management.

Special interest workshops are also held. One of those workshops, Kids in the Kitchen, allowed youth to actively participate while learning about the Food Guide Pyramid, sanitation, kitchen terms, kitchen safety, and basic table etiquette.

Through the Bradley County Fair Premium Sale, 33 youth received $7,475 to assist them with the cost of selecting, raising, and exhibiting their educational livestock project at the county, district and state fair. Since it’s inception in 1993, the Bradley County Fair Junior Livestock Premium Sale has returned $73,791 to Bradley County youth.
