County Impact Statements - Bradley County
Extension Programs Work to Strengthen Families - Programs Target All Ages

Families today are confronted with hard times everywhere they look. Most children grow up in homes where both parents work, leaving child care for centers and other homes. Some children are raised in one-parent homes. Today, violent behavior among children seems to be at an all-time high. To make things harder, economic times in Bradley County are slipping.

Extension provides a Parenting Newsletter with 114 recipients. Monthly topics discuss issues facing today’s families: Parenting issues; nutrition and health information; resource management; and healthful recipes. Ten issues are delivered annually.

The Best Care program offers 10-hours of continuing education to Child Care providers free of charge. Providers learn ways to improve their child care programs. Business management topics are taught along with nutrition and health topics and issues effecting children with special needs.

The Groark Violence Prevention program teaches kindergarten age children about controlling their anger, dealing with conflict, handling bullying and dealing with prejudice. The children learn to improve skills that will prevent violent behavior.
