Soil Collection Instructions for Soil Testing

Take soil samples to your County Extension Office .

Insect Identification

This is currently a free service.

Insects of interest should be carefully collected (some bite and sting!), placed in a small glass or plastic bottle, and taken to your County Extension Office .

Plant Disease Diagnostics

This is currently a free service.

The Plant Disease Clinic performs routine and special analyses of diseased plant specimens. To submit a specimen, contact your County Extension Office .

Poultry Litter Analysis

(For Nutrient Management Plans)

To comply with Arkansas Soil and Water Conservation Commission poultry litter testing for Nutrient Management Plans, use Option 1: Routine Tests on the Manure Analysis for Fertilizer Value Form (AGRI-429) . Routine tests are $20.00 each. Sampling instructions can be found at the bottom of this form. Checks payable to University of Arkansas.

Samples may be submitted in a quart-sized bag. Please collect a minimum of ½ to ¾ quart of litter for each sample. Please clearly label and double-bag all samples (to reduce the chance of spillage).

Submit collected samples to your local County Extension Office . Your County Extension Service Office will ship your samples to the laboratory.

Forage and Grain Testing for Livestock Feeds
  Basic Package - $18.00

Checks payable to University of Arkansas.

 

Moisture and percent crude protein, acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber, total digestible nutrients, and net energy for lactation (NEL).

  Nitrates - $5.00
  Total Nitrogen (for crude protein) - $6.00
  Major Minerals (P, K, Ca, Mg, Na, S) - $6.00 or $1.50 each
  Minor Minerals (Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, B) - $5.00 or $1.50 each
  Relative Feed Value (Dairy) - $1.50
Water Testing
  Domestic - $75
 

Routine: Fluoride, chloride, sulfate, nitrate, pH, electric conductivity, total alkalinity, total hardness, sodium, copper, manganese, iron, total dissolved solids (calculated), aggressive index.

 

Irrigation - $75

 

All Crops: Fluoride, chloride, sulfate, nitrate, pH, electric conductivity, total alkalinity, bicarbonate (calculated), total hardness, calcium, magnesium, sodium, aggressive index, and printout of interpretations for rice and soybeans grown in rotation.

 

Irrigation - $80

 

Drip or Trickle: Fluoride, chloride, sulfate, nitrate, pH, electric conductivity, total alkalinity, bicarbonate (calculated), total hardness, sodium, iron, manganese, and total suspended solids.

 

Fish Pond - $95

 

Routine: Fluoride, chloride, sulfate, nitrate, nitrite, ammonia, phosphate, pH, electric conductivity, total alkalinity, total hardness, carbonate (calculated), bicarbonate (calculated), iron and manganese.

 

Livestock - $75

 

Routine: Fluoride, chloride, sulfate, nitrate, pH, electric conductivity, calcium, magnesium, sodium, copper, and total dissolved solids (calculated).

 

Poultry - $135

 

Routine: Fluoride, chloride, sulfate, nitrate, phosphate, total organic carbon, pH, electric conductivity, bicarbonate (calculated), total hardness, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, copper, manganese, iron, total dissolved solids (calculated), and aggressive index.

 

Water Quality Assessment - $165

 

Routine: Fluoride, chloride, sulfate, nitrate, phosphate, total organic carbon, total suspended solids, total dissolved solids (calculated), pH, electrical conductivity, total alkalinity, carbonate (calculated), bicarbonate (calculated), total hardness, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, copper, manganese, iron, zinc, and aggressive index.

 

Lead Test - $25

 

There is a three working days turnaround time for this test.

 

Total Coliform / E. Coli Test - $25

 

Must be in a 100 ml sterile container and next-day mailed to laboratory
