County Impact Statements - Boone County
4-H Area Training
Training volunteers is a very important aspect of Extension work. It is also
a very challenging task given all the demands on a volunteers time. 4-H leaders,
agents, and para-professionals from Baxter, Boone, Marion and Madison Counties
met in January to discuss the needs of 4-H volunteers. From that brainstorming
session, the 4-H Area Training emerged.
4-H leaders and members had the opportunity to participate in a horse judging
clinic at the Richard Hunt Ranch and various workshops at North Arkansas
College. Workshops included halter standards, halter classes, oral reasons, 4-H
meeting sources and resources, the basics of 4-H, entomology, parliamentary
procedure, citizenship and leadership opportunities.
4-H leaders gained knowledge to develop and strengthen the local 4-H program,
strengthen leadership skills, and create citizenship and leadership
opportunities for youth. 4-H members improved public speaking skills, built
self-confidence and developed teamwork skills and friendships. 4-H members,
Michael Yates, Stephanie Feese, and Neda Tilley, conducted workshops.
Participants in the horse judging clinic were very successful in the state and
regional horse judging contests. Evaluation of both training sessions were very
positive. 4-H leaders and members have asked for a repeat of the training next
year.
The training sessions were coordinated by Jenny Parker and Nita Cooper. Other
presenters were Richard Hunt, Mike Klumpp, Michael Yates, Darlene Baker,
Stephanie Feese, and Neda Tilley.
