County Impact Statements - Arkansas County
Extension Homemaker Clubs Provide Leadership to Communities and
Perform Service Projects
The Cooperative Extension Service provides leadership to
10 Extension Homemaker Clubs with 98 members throughout the county.
Clubs meet monthly with the purpose of empowering
individuals and families to improve their quality of life through
continuing education, leadership development and community service.
Educational topics for the year were in the following
areas:
Health - The Dash Diet; Healthy Ways to Snack; Healthy
Weight, Eating Well Living Well; Make Ahead Dishes for the Holidays;
What to Do in Case of an Accident.
Family Health and Relationships - Depression Management
for Older Adults; Driving Decisions in Later Life; Actions Speak Louder
than Words.
Members also made teaching dolls for use by Children’s
Hospital, Bibs and Support Pillows for the children at Easter Seals, and
Book Bags for the Head Start Children.
They provided many volunteers for the Arkansas County
Fair and assisted with judging at other county fairs. At a county-wide
workshop members assembled quilts for soldiers in cooperation with the
DeWitt High School East Lab Project.
Clubs assisted with preparing and serving the meal at
the annual 4-H Achievement Banquet, and conducting the Miss Arkansas
County Rice Contest.
A new club was organized this year for the support of
individuals who are or care for diabetics. This was formed as a result
of the Diabetic Cooking School conducted by The Arkansas County
Extension Service.

EHC members assisted EAST Lab students at DeWitt High School in
constructing flag quilts for families of local soldiers.

Impacts
- Members contributed 4396 volunteer hours at an in-kind value of $62,940.
- Members made 111 teaching dolls for Arkansas Children’s Hospital, 75
bibs and 3 support pillows for the Easter Seals Child Development Center and
20 book bags for students at the Head Start Program.
- Members serve in leadership roles for organizations and activities
throughout the county.
