Anne R. Sortor, PhD Assistant Director - Family and Consumer Sciences Cooperative Extension Service Division of Agriculture University of Arkansas

Anne R. Sortor was appointed Assistant Director - Family and Consumer Sciences on August 1, 2007. She joined the Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service after serving 11 years with The University of Tennessee Cooperative Extension. She is a native of Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Dr. Sortor earned a B.S. in Home Economics Education from South Carolina State University, M.Ed. from Clemson University in Agricultural Education and a doctorate in Human Ecology with an emphasis in Human Resource Development at The University of Tennessee.

Dr. Sortor's began her Extension career in October of 1977. Prior to joining the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service she held the following positions with the Extension System:

• Regional Program Leader - Family and Consumer Sciences and 4-H Youth Development (Western Region comprised of 31 counties) - University of Tennessee Extension

• Assistant Extension Specialist- Family and Consumer Sciences (Family Life and Leadership Development Unit---Employee Recruitment, Diversity Education, Family and Consumer Science Internships ) - University of Tennessee Extension

• County Extension Director (Spartanburg, Cherokee, Union Counties) - Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service

• County Extension Agent-Senior Agent (Laurens County) - Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, Community Development, EFNEP) - Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service

• County Extension Agent I & II- (Barnwell County ) - Family and Consumer Sciences, 4-H Youth Development, EFNEP)

Dr. Sortor was founder and Executive Director for the Laurens County Teen Pregnancy Prevention Coalition (Laurens, South Carolina). She served as the Executive Director for eight years.

Sortor currently resides in Sherwood, Arkansas .
