Darlene Z. Millard was appointed Assistant Director - 4-H Youth Development, on May 1, 2002. In this position, she provides leadership to the Extension 4-H Youth Development programs designed to empower youth to reach their full potential working and learning in partnership with caring adults. The Arkansas 4-H Youth Development program reached over 113,000 young people and 8,000 volunteers in the state in 2001. Darlene earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education at University of Arkansas Fayetteville in 1976 and a MS degree in Home Economics with and emphasis in Family Relations in 1981. In 1989 she completed a PhD in Family and Consumer Science at Texas Woman’s University in Denton Texas. Before joining the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service, Dr. Millard began her professional career as a high school home economics teacher in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Dr. Millard served as the County Extension Agent - 4-H in Pulaski County prior to joining the State 4-H faculty in 1982. In her position as a 4-H Specialist, Dr. Millard provided statewide leadership to curriculum development and management, recognition - including the Governor’s Award, Hall of Fame and Teen Stars, the 4-H record book program, National 4-H Congress, National 4-H Conference, the 4-H scholarship program, implemented the state 4-H Technology Team, Mini - Society, Wagon Masters, In- Touch Science, and gave leadership to certain segments of staff development and volunteer leader training. Dr. Millard is nationally known for her work related to curriculum development, having served as the chairperson for the National 4-H Cooperative Curriculum System, chairperson for a national 4-H Curriculum Peer Jury Review Team and as a member of the national Experiential Learning Design Team. She is board member of the Dale Bumpers College of Agriculture Food and Life Sciences Alumni Society. Dr. Millard, a former 4-H member and a native of Arkansas, grew up on a small farm in northwest Arklifetime and charter member of the Arkansas 4-H Alumni Association and resides in North Little Rock. |
