Wet Lab Otolith

[clip repeats ending of previous clip]

Chao: We also have a wet lab in a completely different building.

[Camera cuts to Chris Racey in the wet lab]

Chris: Today, we're going to mark our fish with oxytetracycaline. Now what that does is mark the heart parts of the fish.

[Chao laughs jokingly as she pours some of the oxytetracycaline into the fish tank.]

Chris: There, you see it's starting to turn the tank yellow.

[Chris and others wave by to Chao]

Chao: What I've been doing for the past, I don't know how many months, is measuring a whole bunch of otoliths, and I thought that would be interesting to show you what that is like.

Chao: This is the lab in which I work in, and I've been working here for what, nine months I think.

[Chao takes an otolith and puts it under the microscope]

Chao: I take one and I lay it on there.

[Camera shows otolith on the computer screen]

Chao: See how much bigger this otolith is now? Now I need to take a picture right there, and click on the ruler right there and measure across. And it is 4.02. Ok, I'm done with this.

Chao: Kelley, what are you working on?

Kelley: Well, you guys are doing those presentations later this afternoon.
