The Experience:
The experience combines fieldwork, class work, and lab work.
[Interviews begin shortly after]
Derrick: Well, it's given me a lot of experience in the field. Hands on experience. Going to different places. Meeting different people. Everyone is very energetic and they are always going the extra mile to make sure you get what you need.
The Experience: Students help maintain ponds and fish stocks.
[Interview with Calvin]
Calvin: Being an undergraduate while working in the classroom and working on obtaining your fisheries degree you get a chance to experience hands on activities, like right now I'm working in a research lab with one of my professors, Dr. Andy Goodwin. He's working with the fish health lab, where he specializes in fish diseases and bacteria of inland fisheries.
[Interview with James]
James: For my freshman year, during the summer, I came up here and got a job working for them and did all kinds of fisheries work, you know, out in the field with electrofishing, seineing and everything, and I got to do the real fisheries work that biologist would do, so I got to know the real experience and everything about the field. I really like it.
The Experience: Students work alongside instructors conducting cutting-edge research.
[Dr. Goodwin speaking in a clip]
Dr. Goodwin: Those purple spots are the nucleus of the Fish's cell and you can see areas where they look pretty normal.
[Clips shown from the Youth Fishing Derby. Kids fishing, etc.]
Chao: If your thinking about coming to UAPB your definately going to have to do a presentation. It's a little nerve racking as you can tell (i'm not feeling very ready), but it's something you got to do, and it gives you really good experience, I mean for work or anything else you decide to get involved in. So, my stomac's churching, but I have to be ready. *motions to speaker* He's introducing me. Ok, I got to go. Bye. *walks to front of class room*
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. One of the first objectives of this study was to identify what the prey species were and the order the prey were caught in order to know exactly what had been consumed by the fish.

[Interview with Nekea]
Nekea: The thing about fisheries is that I've been having a job ever since I signed my name on the list and thats what I love. Working and going to school and making over minimum wage. So, you can't get any better than that.
Clifton Jackson - AR Game & Fish Comission: The professors there have really helped out a lot. There's a lot of one on one interaction and they... i guess they built off my interests. You know the more I desired to do things, the more doors that they opened for me to do things. So they really, you know, pushed me to the maximum.
Allyson Neely - AR Game & Fish Comission: I'm getting paid to be out here, outside all the time, and helping other people and trying to improve the evironment for other people and I'm having fun doing that and thats the same fun I had doing at UAPB.
[Photos and Clips of various fieldwork, sampling, electrofishing, experiments, etc flow across the screen.]
Ladarrius: From what I know this is one of the best Programs around the world, and thats at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. So I would say come. You have a friendly atmosphere, a lot of things to learn, I mean, it's fun. I like it.
