Extension - Community & Youth Fishing
Pine Bluff and Lake Village Community Fishing Program
Fishing Programs
Pine Bluff and Lake Village has teamed up with the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB), the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC), and the Biological Resources Division of the U.S. Geological Survey to provide exciting fishing in your own backyard. The program is designed to enhance fishing opportunities and to increase the knowledge of fishing techniques and aquatic stewardship values to children in the community.
Youth Fishing Trailer
Extention Fishing Trailer     Our extension service has a youth fishing education trailer that Extension Agents can use to teach children the art of fishing. The trailer is equipped with everything needed to teach kids how to fish, including fishing poles, bait, nets, and games to enhance the learning process. Extension Agents can call the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries at 870-575-8107 for more information on using and checking out the trailer.
UAPB Fishing Derbies
Youth Fishing Derby     Fishing derbies are a fun way for kids to learn how to fish, and spend time outdoors in natural surroundings. Derbies are held at Pine Bluff and Lonoke during the summer and early fall. Kids are required to bring their own poles, and volunteers teach the kids how to bait and cast poles for the perfect catch! For more information on the fishing derbies held by UAPB call 870-575-8107.
Hooked on Fishing-Not on Drugs
If you are looking for a positive fun alternative to help your children develop essential life skills, consider involving them in the Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs Program. This educational program is based on the simple idea that fishing is a positive alternative to drug use and can be used to teach school children important lessons about patience, persistence, and personal responsibility.

Governer Mike Huckabee, the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, and the State Department of Education joined forces to bring the program to Arkansas in 1997. For more information about the Hooked on Fishing-Not on Drugs Program, contact the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission at 1-800-364-GAME.
